Like many books in this genre, “A Killer’s Mind” began with a description of the killer at work, putting the finishing touches on his latest conquest. What was refreshing was that author Mike Omer gave us just enough of a taste in the first chapter to entice readers to keep turning pages.

The author introduces us to Zoe Bentley, a forensic psychologist who is good at her job but doesn’t feel she gets the recognition she deserves. Tatum Grey is an FBI agent, “promoted” to his current position due

An FBI serial killer book, interesting characters, that I liked for the Chicago setting.

Some of the best mystery-thriller Chicago books are authored by Sara Paretsky--suggesting readers start with those if they haven't already read them.

    A KILLER'S MIND

I loved this book, it was my pick of the Kindle First books for July- I did not even have to agonize over the choices this month, loved the brief description.
Zoe and Tatum make a great team, albeit not exactly willingly. There is a lot of humor spread throughout the pages making this a fun read even though it's about a serial killer. Looking forward to the next book.

I picked this up on Kindle First and had no expectations of it. This was an intriguing story about a serial killer who tries to embalm his victims to keep them with him as long as possible.
Zoe is a psychologist who is working as a profiler with the FBI. She met her first killer at the age of fourteen, but no one took her seriously. As she gets closer to this current killer she starts to see a connection from the person who got away from her when she was a teen. Will people listen to her this tim

What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground..

This was my Amazon First choice for July. Zoe Bentley is a forensic psychiatrist who is a civilian consultant for the BAU. She has been fascinated by serial killers since coming into contact with one, when she was fourteen. Agent Tatum Gray was just 'promoted' to Quantico from L.A., after making too many waves.
Tatum and Zoe are sent to Chicago to consult with police about a bizarre serial killer known as the Strangling Undertaker. He's alre

A killers mind is an amazing thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. I love that the story is told from all points of view, from Zoe Bentley (profiler), the FBI agent, to the killer and even the victims, this give a truly excellent and well rounded account of the crimes and detective work. I feel this is how all thrillers, crime, and mysteries should be written.
I found the characters endearing and made you care what was going to happen to them next, the story draws you in with

I didn't "like" A KILLER'S MIND by Mike Omer, I LOVED it! Hooks. Cliffhangers. And an incredible twist (or seven) kept me riveted to the pages—with a blanket nearby to hide under when it got too intense!

I didn't love this Kindle First book, but I didn't hate it, either. I am on the fence as about reading the next book (thank you Mike Omer/Amazon for making it clear this was the first in a series).

The majority of this book is set in present day, but there are a few chapters that take place in 1997, when Zoe is a teen and there have been multiple killings in her small town. I actually liked those chapters the most, because Zoe seems to have a lot more personality. Present day Zoe seems to look fo

Deranged man kills girl, then kills again, and again and again. Deranged man evades police detection for years and the salty detective is called to the case and catches the derange man, tale as old as time right? WRONG! This is a great fresh take on the story of the serial killer. About 2/3 of the way in, I thought that the killer's identity was revealed and that the rest of the book was going to be lacking the much needed suspense given by the unknown identity. Boy was I wrong, and in a good wa ...more

This was an Amazon First Read offer and I am glad I choose this one to read. It kept giving me little twists so I want to read more. The cliff hanger is as expected but I but dont mind as the writing is smooth and I will be reading the next book when it is released. It had the expected officers who didn't follow the rules but came out with results so they were not fired. it had an unexpected twist near the end with a child and almost lost me as I dont care for books that harm children but I dont ...more

Awesome book. I thought it would follow the regular recipe of 'female profiler unwillingly partnered with good looking cocky male FBI Agent search for serial killer together and romance blossoms'. It wasn't what I thought at all !! A five star book for sure. The serial killer has quite a unique M.O. And this book was thrilling. I can't wait for the next Zoe Bentley book to come out in this two book series.
I will definitely read more of this author as well.

Never Has A Novel Title So Well Describe That Novel

The storyline opens with a serial killer is preparing to kill, embalm, and post-mortem rape a prostitute. A scene like this occurs more than once in the novel. While these scenes are explicit, they did not excessively gory or even titillating. The novel is dark as Criminal Minds on TV is dark. If you like Criminal Minds, there’s a very good chance that you will like this novel. If you don’t like Criminal Minds, you probably will not like this no

Just finished this one. Almost didn’t choose this one, but it was my Kindle First book from Amazon. Obviously, I’m glad of the choice I made.
Firstly, it was nice to have a protagonist (in this type of novel) that wasn’t completely self destructive. Zoe is haunted, but doesn’t make the kind of self destructive decisions I’ve seen other characters make.
The plot feels very different than other thrillers. It did not progress in an expected manner. I expected the two timelines in the book to intertwi

I purchased this book entirely on a whim when it was offered to me for 99p by Amazon as one of this month’s “Amazon First Reads”. I had never heard of this author but both the description of the book and the editor’s notes just grabbed me and I really felt I had to give it go. Zoe Bentley is a forensic psychologist that works for the FBI. She has just been assigned her first case with another agent, Tatum Gray. Zoe was a teenager, in a small town, when several women were killed. She tried to tell the police who the killer was, but they didn't believe a 14 year old girl. When they arrested the wrong man, he hung himself in the jail, and Zoe knows that the serial killer is out there. When the killings stopped, they were sure that they had gotten the killer. A Partial Ending With A Cliffhanger

This was a Kindle First pick which I tried unsuccessfully to love. The serial killer storyline is interesting and well-conceived, including the killer’s creepy POV chapters.

The biggest hurdle were the not-very-likable protagonists, which drove me to speed-read through their chapters. Tatum is a cliche maverick FBI agent in trouble with his superiors. Also, Zoe fits the mold of a now-stock, serial killer character. She is an assertive, intelligent woman with a

This was Amazon Kindle First and thankfully free. It never ceases to amaze me when there are so many really good authors out there that many of these offerings are so second rate. This was like a tepid version of Criminal Minds and should therefore with serial killer material have been exciting. It was about as exciting as watching paint dry. The prose was often turgid and so full of unnecessary detail that it bored me to tears. Who cares if Zoe Bentley liked her co

I wanted to love this book. Forensic psychology? BAU? A serial killer who embalms his victims?? SIGN.ME.UP. But I could not get past the characters, who were so insanely childish. If one more person "sighed" or rubbed their eyes or bickered, I was going to lose it. Also, I don't know if the author really understands what a forensic psychologists studies. However, if I read one more book where the female protagonist bites her lip repeatedly I might lose my mind. Who bites their lip? Seriously! That’s a crutch YA authors use. A Killer's Mind (Zoe Bentley Mystery Book 1)

This was an amazing experience! Helping the FBI and the Chicago PD try to catch a serial killer with a twisted fantasy, Zoe Bentley is teamed up with Agent Tatum Gray. An eerie and harrowing aspect of this assignment is that it kicks up memories of a similar situation when Zoe was 14, which still haunts her and her younger sister. Instead of being detrimental to the current crisis they are dealing with in 2016, the flashbacks to the manhunt in 1997 act

It took me a while to get into this book, and I'm not sure why. But once I did get into it, I was hooked, and read the last three-quarters in one sitting.
I really wanted to know who the killer was, and why he was doing it, which is what a mystery is all about, and I wasn't disappointed. Nor was I able to figure it out; in fact, I was quite surprised at the "reveal."

I thought this was a very solid thriller and would certainly read more books in the series. Zoe Bentley is an intriguing character. (Her partner, not quite as much...although his grandfather is a hoot--more scene time for him in the future, please!) I liked the flashbacks to the past.
