JJ Do any of you think Nina is going to create some problems to the newly weds?

Sonya did warn Adrian that spirit users take heart break harder than normal people. Then at the end when they announced their marriage at Court Nina didn't seem too happy. I'm don't think much will come of it but I do think there will be fall out after the way Adrian behaved on his last visit to Court.

Emily Well, here's what Richelle herself said about Ninain an Entertainment Weekly interview - "Nina plays a pretty big part in The Ruby Circle. There’s a subplot that’s been brewing—one I don’t think a lot of readers have paid much attention to. It’s going to come to fruition in a huge way in the last book, and Sydney and Adrian are going to have to deal with it."

I really have no idea what this could be about, but doesn't sound good.

That's a pretty good theory, one I hope is true ;)

I don't think so because in the Fiery Heart Adrian mentioned he had been hearing his aunt for some time now. As for Nina, I just hope she doesn't turn out like Avery in Blood Promise.

JJ I think the Tatiana thing is all on him. I mean it was Tatiana that reminded him Sydney mentioned Duncan. So I'm not bought that there is an outside force there. I think it's just a side effect from spirit. I also think that Robert shouldn't be so easily dismissed but I don't think he alone is capable of anything. Maybe he got captured or somehow ran into Nina and mentored her or something.

Emma I agree. I think people just don't want to believe that Adrian is actually going crazy, so they are coming up with all sorts of crazy theories to explain away Adrian hearing his aunt. But I think Tatiana's voice is just a side effect of spirit.

I don't really think it could be Nina, because Adrian started hearing Tatiana's voice before he met Nina. We first encounter it as a reader after he gets back from the stuff with Nina and Olive, but when it happens he says that he'd been hearing Tatiana's voice in his head in his darker moments since bringing Jill back. Also, Tatiana's voice is inconsistent - sometimes she wants Adrian to drop everything and bust into re-ed to save Sydney, while other times she tells him it's futile.

Honestly, I think the voice really is just in Adrian's head, and that it's just a manifestation of his own darker thoughts/self-doubts. I minored in psychology in college, and about 30% of people diagnosed with bipolar disorder experience either auditory or visual hallucinations during depressive episodes, as Adrian does. I think a lot of readers have trouble grasping the severity of Adrian's mental illness.

JJ @ Emma & Emily

I never thought of how readers viewed Adrian but I think you two are right. When people see him act off, they just chalk it up to being a spirit user (admittedly I'm one of them), but it's not just that. It's that as a byproduct of using spirit he suffers from bipolar disorder. Spirit might be the cause, but the symptoms are very real and affect him as it would anyone else. That doesn't mean that it's the same for everyone (Lissa went into deep depression and would commit self harm). I think that this was nicely covered in the Fiery Heart especially the scene where Adrian meets with the psychiatrist.
