Description: A composer and music teacher in Buffalo, New York is feeling uninspired. Decides to take a trip to his cottage in the woods. There he hopes to find inspiration while cross country skiing and hiking in the snowing landscape. What he finds instead is a mystery that causes him to travel to Pennsylvania, and Michigan. It takes place from December 1900 to December 1901.

He is reminded of the last time he was there, and is concerned about his relationship with his wife and new child. After the funeral he goes to his hippie friend and they go fishing. While fishing he learns about his father and realizes things about himself that will cause the main character to reevaluate his life.
